My dad and i just got a used 2004 TC40DA a day ago and we hooked up the 3 point finish mower to try it out and engaged the pto and it just took off, like it didnt have a soft start or anything, i was just wondering if this is normal or what? Any help would be great thanks!

Does it use a manual clutch versus an electric type? My 33D is a hydro with a single stage manual clutch; if it were a gear trans it would have a two stage clutch. Are you letting out the clutch too fast? ....

nope no cluch, its a hydrostat, just the lever on the left side... i know of the two stage cluch you are talking about, his previous 1310 ford (gear drive) had it, you push the cluch in and the tractor would stop push it all the way and the pto would stop. ....

Like I said a hydro can and does have a clutch. I've never seen a NH with an electric PTO. And my lever's on the left to. But if it does have an electric PTO it only makes sense that you cannot feather the PTO--it's either on or off. ....
